Team Columbia Judith Arndt has followed up her bronze medal for Germany in the World Championships time trial with a bronze medal in the road race. Arndt was part of a five rider break that went clear in the final lap of the technically challenging 138.8 kilometre road-race in Varese, Italy.

A hard-fought last few kilometres saw one attack go after another, but none of them worked out. Then in the final sprint for the line, Arndt finished third behind Nicole Cooke of Great Britain and Marianne Vos of Holland.

Team Columbia’s Bert Grabsch gave the team its first rainbow jersey at
the world road race championships in Varese, Italy on Thursday, winning
the Elite men’s time trial with a perfect ride.

Grabsch was fourth in the world championships in Stuttgart last year
and 14th in the Beijing Olympic time trial but the 43.7km course around
Lake Varese really suited his powerful and aggressive style. He set a
time of 52:01, at an impressive average speed of 50.397km/h. Canada’s
Svein Tuft was second, 42 seconds slower, with David Zabriskie of the
USA third at 52 seconds.

Judith Arndt’s amazingly successful season continued at the world road race championships on Wednesday, winning the bronze medal in the
women’s time trial.

The 32 year Team Columbia rider from Germany set a time of 34-13 for the hilly 25.15km course, finishing 21 seconds behind winner Amber Neben of the USA and 14 seconds behind second placed Christiane Soeder
of Austria.

Greipel took his latest victory in a bunch sprint after Columbia team-mates used their tried-and-tested formula for success: working hard to pull back a dangerous break and then setting the German up for the win.

Mara Abbott blasted ahead in the toughest mountain stage of the Giro della Toscana - Memorial Michela Fanini to clinch Team Columbia’s third win of a possible four. Overall, team-mate Judith Arndt remains in the lead. At the end of the 122 kilometre stage on Thursday, Abbott charged away some two kilometres from the summit of the Volterra climb for a solo win.

“It was wonderful, Judith was in the break with me, giving me advice, telling me what to do and I attacked when she yelled at me over the race radio ‘go, go, go.’” Abbott said afterwards.

Judith Arndt has taken over as race leader in the Giro della Toscana - Memorial Michela Fanini in Italy on Wednesday whilst Ina-Yoko Teutenberg cruised to a strong lone stage win in the same race.

Arndt took the lead on the first sector of Wednesday’s stage, a 57.2 kilometre run from Porcari to Montecarlo won by Marianne Vos of Holland.

Then Ina Teutenberg soloed home to victory on the second sector from Pontedera to Altopascio, whilst Arndt kept a firm grip on the number one spot in the overall classification.

Columbia's Michael Barry soloed to his first win of the season today, taking out Stage Four of the Tour of Missouri at the end of a dramatic and exciting day of racing.

Team Columbia’s outstanding all-round performance in the 2008 Tour of Germany continued a pace on Wednesday as Gerald Ciolek romped home for a superb uphill sprint stage win.

Columbia’s third victory at the Tour of Germany in five days came after Ciolek successfully fended off Swiss rider Rubens Bertogliati and Italian Leonardo Bertagnolli at the summit finish on the third category Winterberg climb. Heavy rainfall made a tough 218 kilometre stage through hilly terain even tougher, but Ciolek stayed ahead of the pack for the fifth stage win of his career in the Tour of Germany.

Third place for Columbia’s Thomas Lovkvist on stage three of the Tour of Germany has earned the Swedish rider the provisional lead in two classifications - the Points and the Best Young Rider’s competitions. Following the 214.9 kilometre stage from Herrieden to Wiesloch, Lovkvist also remains in second place overall behind team-mate Linus Gerdemann, just 17 seconds behind.

This isn’t the easiest Tour of Germany route-wise, with  a lot of climbing early on, but Thomas is showing he’s got what it takes both for the mountain stages and even the small group sprints.” pointed out team manager Rolf Aldag.
