Cycling is a special sport because it takes place on public roads, making each race unique, unlike swimming or track running where each 100m is always the same. In addition, the rider has to build up a unity with the bike to get the most out of it and has to think about tactics and teamwork rather than just fitness and strength.

  • What are you doing when you're not cycling?

Sitting in a chair not knowing what to do with myself.

  • What do you like about riding for Team Columbia-HTC?

The warm atmosphere within the group.

  • What is your greatest childhood memory on 2 wheels?

The bike tour I took with my parents over a few weeks through Czechoslovakia.

  • How did you get into cycling?

I tried different sports as a child, such as judo, rowing and swimming, but I was successful pretty soon after I had started cycling, and so I just went with it...

  • What has been your biggest challenge as a pro cyclist?

The attempt to separate business and private life has been the biggest challenge.

  •  Share a memorable pro career moment:

A race that I will never forget is the team time trial with Team T-Mobile in the Tour de l´Aude 2007. The course included not only oncoming traffic but also a million round-abouts, and some of us (including myself) kept on turning to the wrong directions, so that the team had to wait (or just left them behind). It was the most bizarre race, especially because it turned out that we still won it. Otherwise this memory would fall into the next question...

  • What is your most embarrassing moment?

I´ve forgotten!!

  • What is the last song you listened to before you turned off your Ipod/Zune?

where is my mind? (pixies)

  • What is the best book you have ever read?

Harry Potter

  • What is your favorite comfort food?

The bakery stops during my training rides wouldn´t be quite as nice without having two pieces of cake!

  • What can someone do that really bothers you?

People who don't smell good.
