EDVALD BOASSON HAGEN (23)

Rudsbygd, Norway

Young Edvald is probably one of the most talented riders of the future. He came to Team High Road in 2008 with a long list of victories to his name and in his first year on the team he also achieved a great deal.

He won the Norwegian Time Trial Championships for the second time, he won three stages of the Tour of Britain, a stage of Eneco Tour and he placed first in Criterium International and GP Denain.

Off the bike he seems quiet and shy, but on the bike he a very exciting rider.

Cycling is so many things. It's exciting - so much can happen in a race, it's very tactical and you have to be persistent.

I want to ride for the Team High Road because it is a very good team and they really want to take care of the young riders.

  •  What are you doing when you're not cycling?

Relaxing, but I also enjoy cross country skiing, staying on twin tip skis, during the offseason.

  • What do you like about riding for Team Columbia-HTC?

I like riding for team Columbia-HTC, because it is the best team,  I have great team mates, the best staff and equipment, and they really do take care of the young riders, like me!

  •  What is your greatest childhood memory on 2 wheels?

When I managed to do a wheelie on my bike, as a kid, and after a lot of practice I could do it as long as I wanted.

  •  How did you get into cycling?

My brother started mountain biking, so naturally I also wanted to try. I was around 9 years old when I started mountain biking, and I started with road when I was 15 years old. At that time, I did both mountain and road cycling till I was junior, and from there I just focused on road.  I'm really glad I made that decision.

  •  What has been your biggest challenge as a pro cyclist?

My biggest challenge as a pro cyclist has been handling the long distances.

  • Share a memorable pro career moment:

When I did tour of Britain, stage 4, we were in a small breakaway from the start. We all worked good together, until it was around 5km to go, then two guys attacked, and nobody wanted to do the work to close the gap. Still, we kept a constant tempo, till it was around 500m to go. The field almost caught us, and then I attacked, and went full gas and I passed the last guy 5m before the finish line. That was a really great moment.

  •  What is the last song you listened to before you turned off your Ipod/Zune?

 Infinity 2008

  • What is your favorite comfort food?

I like almost everything, but my favorite is probably tacos or pizza.

  •  What can someone do that really bothers you?

When my girlfriend complains about my race schedule :)
